Friends of the Library
Friends of the Library (FOL) is a non-profit organization that supports our Clay County, Tennessee library. FOL sponsors special events such as the Summer Reading Program and Teen Night. In addition, FOL tries to fulfill the librarian’s wish-list for things that do not fit into the county budget. In the recent past, purchases have included computer tables, a storage shed, picnic tables, a bike rack, and landscaping. FOL also contributes to the library’s building fund.
Two Chili Lunches are held each year, delivering about 120 lunches to offices and businesses and serving about 35 dine-ins in the Celina area. A major activity of the FOL is the publication of a series of books about life and moonshining in Clay County. The first two books, Cures What Ails Ye, and Moonshiners, Revenuers, and Ordinary Folk, have been accepted into the Tennessee State Library and Archives. The third book, Corn in a Jar, will be released in early summer, 2014. The books can be purchased at the Clay County Library, the Chamber of Commerce, the Bank of Celina, and the Clay County Museum. All proceeds of book sales go to support the library’s building fund.
Friends of the Library meets at 6:30 P. M. on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Celina Methodist Church Activity Center. Anyone interested in supporting Clay County’s excellent library is invited and encouraged to attend.
