Hey, Nashville: check us out!
Nashville is a great place, which is shown by its tremendous housing and job market, standard of living and well…..it’s MUSIC CITY. It’s a great place to visit and a great place to live. Nashville is one of the “in” places to be now.
But if you want to get away from it all, Clay County and Dale Hollow Lake are only a two-hour drive from Music City. What do we have to offer?
Dale Hollow Lake
It’s one of the most pristine lakes in the Southeast and the country. Dale Hollow Lake is a haven for house boating, smallmouth bass fishing and all types of water recreation. The Corps of Engineers has purposely kept DHL underdeveloped, so you see Mother Nature at her finest. There are no private docks or homes dotting the shoreline or landscape. The clarity of the water is unmatched anywhere in the region. Scuba and snorkeling enthusiasts love DHL.
Then there’s the smallmouth bass fishing. Not only does the lake hold the world record, it holds the top three spots, 6 of the top 10 and 10 of the top 25 ever caught. When we say DHL is the smallmouth capital of the world, it’s not bragging, it’s just stating fact.
Celina and Clay County
The county has a “Mayberry” charm to it, and Celina is becoming something of an antique and boutique kind of town. We have great local eats, with only two chain restaurants. We have unique local diners and pizza, and a type of BBQ found only in Clay and a neighboring county (it’s in Kentucky, so we won’t count it!).
That same Cumberland River that flows through Nashville, also runs by Celina. The Clay County Museum curator once made that trip by houseboat. She’ll be tickled to tell you about it.
Other activities
We’re home to a rustic, decades-old sport that is also unique to a two-county area. Standing Stone State Rustic Park, where that rustic sport’s world championship is held each year, is only 10 minutes away. We have multiple festivals and two major “yard sales” that run through the area. We just happen to be the headquarters of Honest Abe Log Homes.
We’re a great day-trip or vacation destination, folks.
Retirement
If you need to get away from it all on a more permanent basis, you’ll find that retirement (or weekend getaway) dollars go a long way in Clay County. If you’re about lake life or the road “less graveled,” you need to consider us. Housing and cost-of-living expenses are much less in Clay County than the Big City.
